Explaining Our Greens Powders Simply: Wheatgrass, Spirulina, Chlorella, & Moringa

Greens powders.

You've probably seen your fair share of greens powders, daily greens supplements, and AG1.

And by this point you either swear by them or think they taste too much like a fish tank and can't do it.

Fair enough.

While we don't have a pre-mixed greens powder in our store, we do have 4 separate super solid green powders that you should at the very least know about!

(And maybe even use yourself)

1. Wheatgrass Powder

Our wheatgrass powder comes from young wheat grass shoots that are harvested before they ever create gluten - in case you're worried about that.

Wheatgrass began its rise to fame back in the 1930s through the raw-foods movement, but it was used long before that by ancient Egyptians who noticed it boosted stamina.

The main reason people continue to use it today is for the chlorophyll, micronutrients, and clean energy lift that doesn't feel caffeinated.

Unsurprisingly, it's gonna taste like grass. But hey, you're not using it for the flavor anyway.

2. Spirulina Powder

Spirulina is the blue-green algae harvested from alkaline lakes.

It's also been used for a very long time, dating back to the Aztecs harvesting it from Lake Texcoco. More recently, NASA has studied it for astronaut nutrition because of how dense it is with nutrients.

Most people using spirulina are wanting it for the B-vitamins, antioxidants, and its role in helping bind heavy metals. It's also unusually high in protein content for an algae too.

It's gonna taste like a lake, no doubt about it. But that's okay.

3. Chlorella Powder

Chlorella powder is another type of freshwater algae, but different from spirulina.

It has thicker cell walls, is darker green, and has a slightly different nutrient profile.

I haven't dug as deelpy into its older history, but it was rediscovered in the early 1900s as a potential 'future food' because of its nutrient density.

People reach for chlorella for the same reasons as spirulina, the micronutrients and potential detox support, but chlorella has even higher chlorophyll content.

Taste-wise, expect mild for algae, but yeah, it's still algae.

4. Moringa Leaf Powder

The moringa tree, known in parts of Africa & India as 'the drumstick tree' or 'the miracle tree', has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic tradition for nourishment, energy, and general vitality.

Luckily, it gives you the green without the algae jazz, and includes iron, vitamin C, and beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A).

The flavor is going to be way more pleasant than spirulina and taste more earthy & herbal.

Okay, let's chat on using these powders real quick.

How To Actually Use Greens Powders (Without Hating It)

A simple daily combo that's doable for most:
