Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate

This is hot chocolate with benefits. The cacao brings deep chocolate flavor, while ashwagandha and chaga blend right in without changing the taste in any noticeable way. You get a rich, cozy cup of hot chocolate that also happens to be packed with adaptogens. It is an easy way to work these ingredients into your routine without thinking about it.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1/2 tsp ashwagandha powder
  • 1/2 tsp chaga mushroom powder
  • 2 cups milk of choice
  • 1 tbsp Duck River honey
  • Pinch of Ceylon cinnamon
  • Pinch of Redmond Real Salt

*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the cacao powder, ashwagandha powder, chaga mushroom powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Add a splash of milk and whisk into a smooth paste.
  3. Gradually whisk in the remaining milk and heat over medium-low, stirring frequently, until hot.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in the honey, and pour into a mug.

Notes

  • The adaptogens blend right into the chocolate flavor, so this tastes like regular hot chocolate.
  • For an extra mushroom boost, add 1/4 teaspoon of lion's mane mushroom powder or cordyceps mushroom powder.
  • Top with cacao nibs and a dusting of Ceylon cinnamon for a finished look.
