Ingredients

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom (ground)
  • 2 tablespoons red roses
  • 3 tablespoons Duck River honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon Redmond Real Salt
  • 1/3 cup pistachios (in-shell), shelled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar crystals

*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.

Directions

  1. Combine steel cut oats, water, milk, ground cardamom, and salt in a slow cooker or large pot.
  2. Stir in red roses and coconut sugar crystals.
  3. If using slow cooker, cook on low for 7-8 hours. If using stovetop, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer covered for 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove rose petals or leave for stronger floral flavor.
  5. Stir in Duck River honey and adjust sweetness to taste.
  6. Serve warm topped with chopped pistachios.

Notes

  • For stronger rose flavor, steep red roses in hot milk for 15 minutes before adding to oats.
  • Substitute almonds or walnuts for pistachios if preferred.
  • Leftovers keep refrigerated for up to 4 days and reheat well with additional milk.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon alongside cardamom for extra warmth.
