A great chai latte starts with real loose-leaf chai tea, not a syrup. When you steep it yourself, the cardamom, cloves, and ginger come through so much more vividly. Top it off with frothed milk and a drizzle of honey, and you have a coffeehouse-quality drink right at home.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp chai tea
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Duck River honey
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the chai tea and cinnamon, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the milk and continue heating over low for another 2 to 3 minutes until steaming. Do not boil.
- Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a mug.
- Stir in the honey and enjoy warm.
Notes
- For a stronger chai flavor, steep the tea for 7 to 8 minutes before adding the milk.
- Froth the milk separately for a foamier latte. A handheld milk frother works great.
- Try Sweetie Pie chai tea for a slightly different flavor profile.
