The secret to great tofu is getting it really crispy. Pressing out the moisture and baking at high heat transforms tofu from soft and bland into golden, crunchy, and deeply satisfying. Drizzled with a simple peanut sauce, it becomes something you will genuinely crave.
Ingredients
- 2 blocks extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 2 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos
- 1 tsp garlic granules
- ½ tsp ginger
- ½ tsp Redmond Real Salt
- For the sauce: 3 tbsp peanut butter, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp Duck River honey, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp ginger, water to thin
- Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Toss the tofu cubes with avocado oil, soy sauce, garlic granules, ginger, and salt.
- Spread in a single layer on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy on all sides.
- While the tofu bakes, whisk together all the sauce ingredients until smooth. Add water a tablespoon at a time until it reaches a drizzling consistency.
- Drizzle the peanut sauce over the crispy tofu. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu for at least 15 minutes is essential. Use a tofu press or wrap in towels with a heavy pan on top.
- Serve over brown basmati rice or white Thai jasmine rice with steamed vegetables.
- The peanut sauce keeps in the fridge for a week and works on noodles, salads, and grain bowls.
