Golden milk has been a comfort drink for centuries, and once you try a homemade version, the appeal is obvious. Turmeric gives it that gorgeous golden color, while cinnamon and ginger add warmth in every sip. A pinch of black pepper helps your body absorb the turmeric, and a drizzle of honey rounds everything out with gentle sweetness.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk of choice (oat, coconut, or whole milk)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1 tbsp Duck River honey
- 1/2 tsp extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil (optional, for richness)
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Add the milk, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper to a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Whisk continuously as the milk heats for about 3 to 4 minutes. Do not let it boil.
- Once the milk is hot and steaming, remove from heat and stir in the honey and oil if using.
- Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy warm.
Notes
- For an iced version, brew a stronger concentrate with half the milk, then pour over ice and top off with cold milk.
- Add a pinch of ashwagandha powder for an adaptogenic boost.
- Swap the Duck River honey for TN maple syrup to keep it fully vegan.
