Green smoothies are one of the easiest ways to load up on nutrients first thing in the morning. The banana completely masks the spinach flavor, so even people who think they do not like green drinks will enjoy this one. Add flax seeds for omega-3s and a scoop of spirulina if you want to take it to the next level.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh spinach
- 1 ripe banana, frozen
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1 tbsp flax seeds
- 1 tbsp Duck River honey
- ½ tsp spirulina
- ½ cup ice
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Add the spinach and milk to a blender. Blend for 30 seconds until the spinach is broken down.
- Add the frozen banana, flax seeds, honey, spirulina, and ice.
- Blend on high for 1 to 2 minutes until completely smooth.
- Pour into a glass and drink immediately.
Notes
- Freeze ripe bananas ahead of time. They make the smoothie thick and creamy without needing yogurt.
- Skip the spirulina if you prefer a milder flavor. Add it gradually over time as you get used to it.
- Stir in a tablespoon of whole black chia seeds for extra fiber and protein.
