Herbed Buttermilk Drop Biscuits

These tender drop biscuits require no rolling or cutting, making them perfect for busy mornings. Fresh herbs add savory depth while buttermilk creates the signature tangy flavor and fluffy texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Redmond Real Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chives, dried
  • 1 tablespoon dill
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1 1/4 cups cold buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, chives, dill, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut cold butter into small cubes and work into flour mixture with fingertips until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in center and pour in cold buttermilk and olive oil.
  5. Stir gently with a fork just until dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop batter in 2-tablespoon portions onto prepared baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake 15-17 minutes until golden brown on top.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Try rosemary and thyme for a different herb combination.
  • Add 1/4 cup grated cheese for extra richness if desired.
  • Substitute herbs de provence for a French-inspired flavor.
