Compound butter is one of the easiest ways to make a simple meal feel fancy. You just mix softened butter with herbs and seasonings, roll it into a log, and chill it. Then you slice off a round whenever you want an instant burst of flavor on steak, fish, vegetables, pasta, or warm bread. It takes five minutes of active effort and pays you back for weeks.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp dried rosemary (herb), finely crushed
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp garlic granules
- 1/2 tsp Redmond Real Salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Place the softened butter in a medium bowl. Add the rosemary, thyme, garlic granules, salt, and pepper.
- Mix with a fork or spatula until the herbs are evenly distributed throughout the butter.
- Spoon the butter onto a piece of parchment paper or parchment paper. Shape it into a log about 1.5 inches in diameter. Roll it up tightly and twist the ends closed.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until firm. Slice into rounds as needed.
Notes
- This freezes beautifully for up to 3 months. Slice rounds before freezing so you can grab one at a time.
- Try adding sage or chives for a different herb combination.
- Melt a round over corn on the cob, stir into mashed potatoes, or toss with hot pasta for an instant sauce.
