Hibiscus tea has a gorgeous deep red color and a bright, tart flavor that is somewhere between cranberry and pomegranate. This cooler steeps the flowers into a strong concentrate, sweetens it with honey, and serves it over plenty of ice. It is one of the most refreshing drinks you can make at home.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup hibiscus
- 4 cups boiling water
- 3 tbsp Duck River honey
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
- Ice
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Place the hibiscus flowers in a heatproof pitcher or large jar. Pour the boiling water over them.
- Let steep for 15 to 20 minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger and more tart it will be.
- Strain out the flowers, then stir in the honey while the tea is still warm.
- Add the lime juice, let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold. Serve over plenty of ice.
Notes
- This keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days and actually gets better overnight.
- Add fresh mint leaves or sliced cucumber for a spa-water twist.
- Swap the Duck River honey for coconut sugar crystals for a vegan version.
