Holy Basil Stress Tea

Holy basil, known as tulsi in Ayurvedic tradition, is considered one of the most important adaptogenic herbs and has been revered in India for thousands of years. It has a complex flavor that is part minty, part peppery, and slightly clove-like. Paired with the gentle calm of chamomile and the bright lemony notes of lemon balm, this tea is both soothing and interesting to drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp holy basil (Tulsi)
  • 1 tsp chamomile flowers
  • 1 tsp lemon balm leaf
  • 2 cups boiling water

*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.

Directions

  1. Place the holy basil, chamomile, and lemon balm in a tea infuser or teapot.
  2. Pour the boiling water over the herbs and cover immediately to capture the volatile oils.
  3. Steep for 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Strain and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Holy basil is an adaptogen, which means it is traditionally used to help the body adapt to stress over time. Drinking it regularly may be more beneficial than an occasional cup.
  • Add a spoonful of Duck River honey to bring out the sweeter side of the tulsi.
  • This is a wonderful afternoon tea when you need a calm, clear mind for the rest of the day.
