Honey mustard is one of those flavors that pretty much everyone loves, and making it from scratch takes the whole thing to another level. Toasting and grinding your own mustard seeds gives it a complexity that pre-made versions just cannot match. Paired with local honey and a splash of vinegar, this dressing is perfect for salads, dipping, or drizzling over roasted chicken.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp mustard seeds, ground
- 3 tbsp Duck River honey
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 tsp Redmond Real Salt
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Toast the mustard seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes until they begin to pop and smell fragrant. Let them cool slightly.
- Grind the toasted seeds in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle until you have a coarse powder.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ground mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, and turmeric until smooth and well combined.
- Taste and adjust the sweetness or tang to your preference. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate.
Notes
- If you prefer a smoother dressing, blend everything in a small food processor or blender.
- This dressing thickens as it chills. Thin it with a splash of vinegar or water if needed.
- Try adding a pinch of garlic powder for extra depth.
