When the weather turns cold or everyone around you starts sniffling, this is the tea to have on hand. Echinacea and elderberries have been used in herbal traditions for centuries, and paired with spicy ginger root, they make a deeply warming cup. A spoonful of honey rounds out the flavor and adds its own soothing quality.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp echinacea root
- 1 tbsp elderberries
- 1 tsp ginger root
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 to 2 tsp Duck River honey
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Place the echinacea root, elderberries, and ginger root in a tea infuser or directly in a small saucepan.
- Pour the boiling water over the herbs. If using a saucepan, bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cover and steep for 15 to 20 minutes. The longer steep time draws out more of the beneficial compounds.
- Strain into your favorite mug and stir in honey to taste.
Notes
- For a stronger brew, gently simmer the roots and berries on the stove for 20 minutes instead of just steeping.
- Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice for a bright, citrusy twist.
- Make a larger batch and store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove.
