Steel cut oats usually take 30 minutes on the stove, but this method cuts that down to almost nothing. Soak them overnight and they just need a quick warm-up in the morning. You get that chewy, nutty texture without standing over the stove. It is the best of both worlds.
Ingredients
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 3 cups water
- ½ tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- ¼ tsp Redmond Real Salt
- Toppings: TN maple syrup, pecan halves, fresh berries, milk of choice
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- In the evening, bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in the steel cut oats, cinnamon, and salt.
- Remove from heat, cover, and let sit on the counter overnight (at least 8 hours).
- In the morning, reheat over medium-low heat for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally and adding a splash of water or milk if needed.
- Serve topped with maple syrup, pecans, and fresh berries.
Notes
- This method works because the boiling water softens the oats enough that they finish cooking during the overnight soak.
- Make a big batch and refrigerate portions. Reheat with milk throughout the week.
- Stir in flax seeds or whole black chia seeds before serving for extra nutrition.
