Pan-Seared Pork Chops with Apples

Pork and apples are one of those combinations that just works. Thick-cut pork chops get a beautiful sear in a hot pan, then rest while you quickly saute apples with butter and cinnamon in the same skillet. The result is a dinner that tastes like fall on a plate and comes together in about 25 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
  • 2 large apples, cored and sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp sage
  • ½ tsp Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Redmond Real Salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp TN maple syrup

*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.

Directions

  1. Pat the pork chops dry. Season both sides with sage, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden and the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
  3. Transfer to a plate and rest for 5 minutes.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the apple slices, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the apples are tender and lightly caramelized.
  5. Serve the pork chops topped with the cinnamon apples and any pan juices.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. They hold their shape better when cooked.
  • Add a splash of apple cider vinegar to the apples for a brighter flavor.
  • Boneless pork chops work too but cook faster, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
