Respiratory Support Tea

Mullein leaf has been used in folk herbalism for centuries as a respiratory herb, and when combined with the soothing mucilage of marshmallow root and the cooling menthol of peppermint, it makes a remarkably comforting tea. The flavor is mild and pleasant, with a refreshing finish that opens things up. This is a great tea to keep in your rotation during allergy season or dry winter months.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp mullein leaf
  • 1 tsp marshmallow root
  • 1 tsp peppermint leaves
  • 2 cups boiling water

*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.

Directions

  1. Combine the mullein leaf, marshmallow root, and peppermint leaves in a tea infuser or teapot.
  2. Pour the boiling water over the herbs and cover.
  3. Steep for 10 to 15 minutes. A longer steep extracts more of the mucilage from the marshmallow root.
  4. Strain carefully through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth (mullein has tiny hairs that you want to filter out).

Notes

  • Always strain mullein through a fine filter. The tiny leaf hairs can irritate the throat if they make it into your cup.
  • Add a teaspoon of Duck River honey for sweetness if desired.
  • This blend is caffeine-free and safe to drink multiple times per day.
