Savory Herb Popcorn

Nutritional yeast gives this popcorn a savory, almost cheesy flavor without any actual cheese. Combined with garlic powder and dried rosemary, it becomes the kind of snack you keep reaching into the bowl for without thinking. It is ready in under 10 minutes and tastes way more interesting than plain buttered popcorn.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup yellow popcorn
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary (herb), crushed between your fingers
  • 1/4 tsp Redmond Real Salt

*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.

Directions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add 3 kernels and cover. When they pop, the oil is ready.
  2. Add the remaining popcorn kernels, cover, and shake the pot gently. Let the kernels pop until the popping slows to 2 to 3 seconds between pops.
  3. Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl. Drizzle with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and toss.
  4. Sprinkle the nutritional yeast, garlic powder, rosemary, and salt over the popcorn. Toss well to distribute the seasoning evenly.

Notes

  • The Nacho Spice blend already has salt in it, so taste before adding extra.
  • Crush the rosemary between your fingers before sprinkling. This releases the oils and makes the flavor more pronounced.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne or chili peppers (crushed).
  • Try the nacho spice nutritional yeast blend in place of plain nutritional yeast for an even bolder flavor.
