Lettuce wraps are one of the best ways to enjoy taco flavors without the heaviness. Crisp lettuce leaves cradle warmly spiced turkey and all your favorite toppings. They are light enough to eat several, satisfying enough to fill you up, and fun enough that kids love building their own.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground turkey
- 1 head butter lettuce or romaine, leaves separated
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp garlic granules
- 1 tsp Redmond Real Salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Toppings: diced avocado, salsa, lime wedges, cilantro
*Bolded ingredients are products we typically carry at Tare Bulk Foods.
Directions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 minutes.
- Add the ground turkey and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it up, until cooked through.
- Add the garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic granules, salt, and pepper. Stir for 1 minute.
- Add a splash of water and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture is saucy.
- Spoon the turkey mixture into lettuce cups. Top with avocado, salsa, lime juice, and cilantro.
Notes
- Butter lettuce leaves make the best cups because they are pliable and tender.
- Use ground beef or chicken tenderloins (diced small) instead of turkey for a different protein.
- Make extra seasoned meat for easy leftovers in rice bowls or quesadillas.
